THE FLOOR IS OPEN
Types of Classes

Ongoing groups meet  once regularly are are  only for people who have registered at the beginning of the series of classes. The ongoing group builds trust and depth of experience between participants.
Open Floor classes are regular walk in classes of 2- 3 hours and cover aspects of our well being. These classes do  not exclusively follow the Open Floor Teacher format  as I weave into the class my own ideas and influences from teachers who have touched my life deeply. Some of the work is based upon the Learning Love institute of Krish and Amana Trobe who have developed a wonderful body of work to help us with  shame, shock, risk, trust, co-depencency and abandonment.  The main purpose is to help offer insights into helping having more mature relationships.

Class Format
45 min to 1hour  Warm Up.
Opening the Floor
Guidance on the theme. Journey and exploration through dance, voice, touch, meditation or other forms of work.
Settling period and then closing the floor. Sharing with each

Warm Up
This is an important part of the  dance. You can come and warm up before the start and use the Warm Up to help your mind and body arrive in the space by stretching and moving in ways that open the body to receive more energy. Some people lie on  the floor and just relax others move slowly leaving the thoughts of the day behind and clear their mind ready for practice. I strongly encourage people to put everything into the warm up so they are really alive and emotionally ready for the remainder of the class.

Other Practical Details for Open Floor classes and workshops
  • No experience is necessary. There is no right way to do this practice everyone's dance is unique
  • Register by email and then come directly to the class
  • Avoid alcoholic drink before the dance.
  • Bring a bottle of water as we get hot!
  • Wear comfortable clothes for dancing that don't restrict our movement
  • We dance bare foot or with dance shoes for wooden floors
  • The dance area is a space where we don't talk.
  • If you wish to share a dance with another dancer then take care to be sensitive  of their space and make sure they are open to dancing with a partner. Mutual respect is encouraged at all times
  • To end a dance with someone at any point or to signal that you do not wish to dance with a partner then simply join your hands together at the level of the heart in a sign of thanks to them and move away.
  • You can arrive at any time but take care to ensure that you warm up properly and to respect the energy you find on arrival in the room.
  • You can leave before the end but please tell one of the staff so that we know you are OK.

Community Dances
This Open Floor Class has a simple format with no exercises or group sharing. I hold the space and provide dancers with the opportunity to engage in their own personal practice. You may want to dance with other people or alone it is entirely up to you to choose what is best for you. There will be a core movement resource that I will introduce as a theme for exploration and structure for those who wish to have a framework to practice within.

Classes are for  anyone who wishes  become more mindful, conscious and simply let the body heal past wounds or re-energise it's self through movement.

QUINTA DA CORUJA
Open Floor Portugal.
Dance and Open Floor workshops  Portugal. Movement Thereay Portugal.

Quinta da Coruja is our new home in Portugal, where we are about to create a small scale course centre. We are following our dream to live a sustainable life in a nice climate where we can be more self-sufficient.
We are following the principles of permaculture design and hoping to create an oasis for wellbeing for both humans, animals and plants.

Quinta da Coruja is a farm with 26ha land consisting of meadows with old stone oaks, pine forest and a beautiful valley in the mountains with old olives and vines abandoned by humans long time ago.

We also offer services of Eco-tourism with B&B.
Accommodation is in our independent guesthouse or the suite in the end of the main building, both with own bathrooms.
Accommodation in yurts and cabins with a communal outdoor kitchen and composting toilets will be available in the near future. We will be offering residential dance workshops where you can deepen you dance movement practice and inner awareness.

Our aim is to invite like minded people to come and stay with us to help create a centre for personal spiritual development. The vision is to practice and exchange our practices together in community. Individuals live in nature and be on their own retreat knowing that there are morning and evening community practices of dance and meditation. The opportunity is to grow and offer our teachings to each other and people who wish to stay at the centre. This is the vision.

Learning Love Institute and Open Floor in Portugal
Simon Yearwood Open Floor teacher and Learning Love Institute facilitator combines dance movement practice exercises to develop and deepen trust based upon the work from Krish and Amana of the Learning Love Institute. Their work is to provide people with the resources to have fuller and deeper relationships. Simon brings this work to Open Floor in Portugal
"Body and Soul" the spirit of nature.

This is were we work together in nature,  moving off the trails and into the hills or forests to find secret places to dance and inspire us. This is a customized dance concept where we discuss what experience and desires you which to fulfil through dancing in nature and then I organize the activity for you.
