ABOUT THIS THERAPEUTIC  WORK
If you find the thought of conventional  therapy challenging then this is a great alternative way to  express and connect with your issues through music, dance or other artistic means. The idea is that you be as  open and as fluid as possible in how to  work on your  issues. There is never one right approach it is how you can feel most at home in working on expressing yourself.

Rock Bottom in Recovery
For many people the journey of  recovery sometimes hits a blockage or crisis  and they simply don't have the means to cope even if they have access help through a fellowship or 12 step program. You may feel like been in shock or continuously been somewhere else and not available. Sometimes we just can't fathom out what is happening as life has always seemed like this!. To make matters worst our shame tells us that we should not be feeling like this any more! With the help of a recovery program and  coaching  one can bring awareness to these issues and begin to heal what seems so baffling and beyond us. Often fuelled by shame and depression these negative trances or life traps keep us in the grip of emotional turmoil and feed our addiction. Sometimes there seems like no way out . My simple approach is to offer a  safe way to explore and bring change through awareness and skills for life.

How do we start to change?
Often it may seem beyond us and we sometimes just give up and sink into old behaviour.  What I offer is the space and encouragement to help  you become aware and in doing so bring about change and acceptance at a deeper healing level. With awareness we can keep from falling into old patterns of behaviour such as numbing or freezing out in stressful situation. Some of the sessions  may be working with boundaries , people pleasing or shame and abandonment fears that prevent us from having healthy relationships. Often there is deep trauma and shock that still manifests its self  in our lives today. This to can be explored and worked on. In the end the individual must put energy and commitment into their inner journey.

Sometimes words are not enough and people need to go deeper to heal and unblock the ways that one avoids  the moment and  to avoid ones deeper feelings. Helping peope in recovery incorporates the principles of the Minnesota model, coaching and using conscious movement, meditation and body work.

This therapeutic approach teaches people to trust themselves, their bodies and to express what is going on inside in a safe and creative way. I use some ideas from dance movement therapy and  I use Open Floor movement practice that is based on Gestalt therapy to give a joyful and light way for people to work on their emotions and expressing how they feel. My work has been influenced by many teachers, including Richard Moss and his radical awareness practice which helps people learn mindfulness and presence. John Bradshaw's inner child and shame work which helps people to heal their wounded self and restore their dignity.

The work teaches  people to relate from a connected and adult space as oppose to an immature wounded state.  I assist people from practical experience and  31 years of experience in this field.  I also do my best to live and practice what I teach!

WORKING WITH REHAB CENTRES
In 2016 I started working with treatment centres in Finland to offer help to groups of people with dependency problems using my approach. If you as a professional would like more information on organizing sessions for groups of any size or for individuals then please contact me for details. I would be delighted to work with you bringing a dance therapy approach to helping people find emotional sobriety. I offer a dance workshops that cover the 12 steps of recovery and I offer individual sessions.

Dance as a  recovery from addiction ...It works if you work it

MY EXPERIENCE  IN THE FIELD OF RECOVERY
I have been involved with people in recovery for over 31 years. During this time I have been working my own recovery program as well as helping others start theirs.
I realise now how much help it would have been to have found dance in my early recovery. Dance helps us move through those feelings of being uncomfortable and not been in touch with our emotions. Dance helps heal the mind, body and spirit and helps support addiction recovery with addiction counselling.
It is a way of a healing through creative  self expression and a way to true authenticity. What may take years to unblock through sharing and going to meetings can be freed with astonishing speed on the dance floor.

HEALING AND WORKING WITH EMOTIONS

Dance practice has helped me enormously to be fully alive in my body and to live a fully emotionally embodied life. Allowing myself to open up to living life on life's terms with comfort ease and been fully responsible.
Many people in early recovery need to express  in a safe and  healing way the years of bottled up emotions that are either suppressed or just beneath the surface. We say one thing, think another and do something else. Learning to let go, learning to trust and take risks or overcome our fears can be worked through by using many techniques. There is a need to get in touch with emotions in a clear and healthy way without the fear that we will be overwhelmed. Participants learn to become more aware and reconstruct decision making  by not reacting but by finding an inner strength to hold them true and guide them. Through movement practice we can learn to be fully in our power and energy and at the same time humble enough to know the  limits of our own power and what we have no control over. Not reacting but embracing  what we feel. Dance offers a unique way to teach us basic life skills of connecting to others and having great relationships including one of the most important ones - a loving relationship with ourselves and our higher self. Participants can gain greater  consciousness of their behaviours and then work with a sponsor or therapist to guid them and apply the steps of recovery to this area. This kind of movement work is not a replacement for other kinds of recovery work essential to maintaining sobriety. It is an additional support for people to gain progress and understanding more quickly.

One to One Recovery in Motion sessions.
I would encourage people in recovery who work 12 step programs  to join a conscious movement practice. I also offer one to one sessions using Open Floor movement principles to help people with addiction problems. Its an inexpensive and enjoyable way to work on your recovery  and to broaden your capacity to handle emotions or to feel them and enjoy them as part of our life and not as something to be suppressed or avoided. Life is always brining us what we need to learn and part of becoming more centred and able to cope it to handle life on life’s terms without using. These session are practical and combine 12 step orientated coaching together with therapy work to help you realize greater balance and freedom. One on One sessions introduce a fourth dimension to your emotional sobriety. You deserve it you are worth it. Contact me to fix an appointment.
